Stingspawn
Stingspawn are produced by Bileguts, and these small, insect-like Machines hatch from bulbous Stingspawn Eggs. Stingspawn Eggs hatch when they detect nearby movement, but not all eggs in a given area are active. Stingspawn are more of a nuisance than a threat since they can generally be destroyed with a single arrow. Still, if you find yourself surrounded by an overwhelming swarm of Stingspawn, they can become a problem because you'll typically encounter them near the Bilegut that produced them.

Tips for Defeating Stingspawn
- Stingspawn can generally be destroyed with a singular, fully-charged arrow from a Hunter Bow.
- To avoid having to fend off these annoying Machines, preemptively destroy Stingspawn Eggs with a ranged weapon or by quickly meleeing the eggs before the Stingspawn have time to hatch.
- Because Stingspawn pose a minor threat and die once their parental Bilegut is destroyed, we recommend that you largely ignore the pests until you're left with no choice but to kill them.
- Instead, focus your attention and resources on defeating the nearby Bilegut.
- Stingspawn do not drop loot upon death, so unless it's required, there's really no reason to fight these foes.
Stingspawn Locations
Because Stingspawn are the offspring of Bileguts, they're normally found in or near Bilegut sites. In addition to the Bilegut sites marked above, there are also a ton of Stingspawn in Cauldron: Theta. In the Burning Shores' opening quest, To the Burning Shores, the story path will introduce you to both Bileguts and Stingspawn.

Bilegut
Bileguts are large frog-like machines that use their robotic tongue and various leaping attacks to dish out damage. Bileguts also have several elemental attacks that can inflict damage over time and severely limit your movement speed. If all that weren't enough, Bileguts will always be flanked by the swarms of Stingspawn they produce.

Tips for Defeating Bileguts
- As Bileguts leap around and expel acid, they'll continually hatch more Stingspawn. With this in mind, there is little benefit to focusing on the endless swarm. Instead, prioritize defeating the Bilegut, and its Stingspawn will die alongside it.
- The leaping attacks used by Bileguts inflict area-of-effect damage, which causes Aloy to fall over. To avoid being stunned, keep your distance from the hoppity beast and jump or dodge the moment the Bilegut's ground pound makes impact.
- While fighting Bileguts, use your strongest weaponry to target their chin and stomach regions. This is where the Metalbite Sac (Blaze Sac in Apex Bileguts) is located. When destroyed, Metalbite and Blaze Sacs explode to inflict devastating damage, and they cause the machines to surpass their elemental limit. As a bonus, the explosive blast decimates any Stingspawn within the blast radius.
- Bileguts can be overridden after completing Cauldron: THETA.
Bilegut Locations
Bileguts can be found at the sites circled on the map above. Meanwhile, the sole Apex Bilegut in the Burning Shores lurks within Cauldron: Theta.
Waterwing

Waterwings are versatile mounts that Aloy can use to navigate the sky and dive through the sea. But before you can ride a Waterwing, you'll need to tweak your spear's Sunwing Override during the quest, For His Amusement. Waterwings are agile opponents that prefer to stick together, so be prepared to fight against multiple birds at a time.

Tips for Defeating Waterwings
- It's far easier to sneak up on a Waterwing than it is to defeat one in the skies. Once in the air, the Waterwing will alert its nearby allies, and you'll get swarmed.
- The Specter Gauntlet is inarguably the best weapon to defeat Waterwings due to its designators. Place designators on your flying foe (R1) and the shards you fire will home in on the target, allowing you to focus on avoiding incoming attacks.
- Destroying a Waterwing's Chillwater Canister with Frost Damage or Blaze Canister with Fire Damage (Apex Waterwing) causes an elemental explosion that deals significant damage and causes the machine to exceed its elemental limit.
Waterwing Locations
While Waterwings can be found at the sites circled on the map above. As previously mentioned, you cannot mount a Waterwing until you've altered your override in the For His Amusement quest.
Horus
Fans of the Horizon franchise are likely familiar with the Horus because it's a monstrous machine mentioned in both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West. Also known as a Metal Devil, the Horus is an Old World titan capable of unleashing cataclysmic attacks and replicating other machines. When Walter Londra manages to boot up a dormant Horus, Aloy and Seyka look to exploit the colossal machine's ancient systems which are prone to overheating.
